Oh, what a week to be a woman.
Just when you might have thought feminism was making a bit of progress, along comes May 2024 to put us in our collective place.
It’s hard to know where to start with the veritable mass of misogyny we’ve been treated to over the last few weeks but, since he’s made it so easy, let’s start with Harrison Butker, a man you’ll likely have learned of this week via his delightful commencement address to graduates at Benedictine College, a small Catholic university in Kansas, USA.
Butker’s role on stage was to inspire a room full of young graduates who had somehow completed their degrees despite starting college in a global pandemic. Imagine then, being one of the young women forced to watch on as their achievements were then denigrated by a man who made his millions from – checks notes – kicking a football.
