So. So so so…

I’m getting really fed up with beginning these summaries with a variation of ‘phew, what a week’, but seriously, WHAT. A WEEK.

The Machiavellian machinations of Westminster have been quite something to watch, haven’t they? On the one hand, for political nerds like myself, it’s been hard not to enjoy the drama. Twitter has never been more entertaining. And yet, the reality is that living in a failed state, as Brits undoubtedly were for at least part of this week (and arguably still are), isn’t exactly ideal.

Moreover, behind every political scandal lie the stories buried, the policies unexamined. Every bad day is a good day to bury bad news and while there’s a temptation to believe this week’s events began and ended with the credits to the Boris Johnson show, in truth, the world kept turning amid the chaos.

Here, then, beside the obvious tale of Westminster woe, are the stories you might have missed amid the maelstrom – along with your much-needed good news, and some interesting reads that go beyond the front pages.
